A Big Accomplishment!

Something very exciting happened at our house last night. I was on my way to Yoga when I got a call from a very excited Nick, he couldn't wait to tell me the big news and it went something like this: Nick was changing clothes after work and Dalton was hanging out in the bathroom with him like he usually does. All of a sudden Dalton pulled up his shirt and said, "Daddy, I need to go tinkle". Dalton just turned two on April 1st and has not begun any serious potty training yet, as I have been told it's just too early for a boy to potty train. So I haven't pushed the issue at all and was very surprised that he just decided he was ready.

Nick helped Dalton up on his step stool and got him all ready, and sure enough...he tinkled in the potty! I was so proud to hear this news, but a little sad that I missed it. When I got home I made a big deal about what a big boy Dalton was and how proud I was of him. We already have pull-ups in the house, just waiting for the day we could start to use them, so I thought...we'll start in the morning!

This morning when Dalton woke up, I took him in my bathroom and asked him if he wanted to go tinkle in the potty like a big boy and he was agreeable. So I set him up on the stool and helped him get ready...he was pushing his belly in and out like he was really trying to go, but nothing happened. So I told him he could wear his cool Cars pull-up and whenever he was ready to go to tell me. He thought the Cars pull-up was cool, but he sure as heck did NOT want to wear it...he started begging me for his Winnie the Pooh diaper instead. I've heard that forcing something they're not ready for will only make them regress, so I said OK, we'll go get a diaper. I didn't have one with me, so we had to go to his room. He was...well...exposed because he wouldn't wear the pull-up. I reached in the closet for a diaper and turned around to find Dalton relieving himself (a LOT) on his Dallas Cowboys mesh hamper that holds all of his balls. Great!

I said, "Dalton stop!" and he did, very abruptly...it was reminiscent of when my mom would bust my brother and his friends trying to "write" their names on the fence in the backyard. I took him in the bathroom to finish. I tried to plug for the pull-up again, but he wouldn't have it...Diaper or Nothing. And I had learned my lesson with nothing, so I put a diaper on him and cleaned up his room and that was that. I'm sure to have many more "moments" on our journey to Pottyhood, so I'll be sure and share the good ones. Pray for me!!

Be prepared--we caught one of our boys 'relieving himself' at a local nursery--right at the base of a potted plant!!
