It seems that every year the Christmas season starts earlier and earlier...kind of like the school year. Keep this up and eventually the first day of school and Christmas will fall on the same day! Anyway, I'm certainly not complaining...at least not about the Christmas season starting early...I love it!! In fact, we're planning to put our tree up when we return from Dallas this Sunday. I know it's a little soon, but Thanksgiving is going to be such a packed long weekend, that I'm afraid if we don't do it before, it may not happen in time for Christmas!
So last night at Market Street they had the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony signifying the start of the holiday season in The Woodlands. We met up with the Hogan's to join in on the festivities. From now until Christmas, Santa will be hanging around Market Street, decorations are everywhere, and there is even an outdoor ice skating rink!! It really helps put the spirit of the holidays in your heart and it is so much fun to watch Dalton appreciate it all this year. Last year he was a little too small to enjoy the beauty of the lights and music everywhere, but he definitely notices now!
The gigantic Christmas tree in the middle of Market Street stood dark while locals gathered around in the courtyard...there was a band playing Christmas music and some non-Christmas Country favorites...Dalton and Anniston danced and laughed and sang along...they had a blast!! Dalton was shivering a little...it was a little chilly, but he seemed to be more excited than cold.
The band sang Blue Christmas, then turned the mic over to the Youth Choir from the First Baptist Church. They led the crowd in a few favorite carols, then introduced the little girl who would be doing the honors of lighting the tree...The choir sang Silent Night, and were signing the words in sign language...the last verse they signed only and did not sing, then explained that the little girl lighting the tree is deaf and they wanted everyone to "hear" the song the way she did...it was very sweet and a beautiful moment.
The crowd counted down backwards from 10, then fireworks went off and the tree lit up gloriously!! Dalton was wide-eyed with wonder and amazement...it was awesome!! I tried to get a picture of the tree and the choir, but it was too dark out. You'll just have to take my word for it...it was wonderful!
We finished off the night at Chili's with Karyn, Shawn and Anniston...then got Dalton to bed at 9:00pm (which is well past his bed time!), but he was up ready to go at 6:00AM anyway! That's our Dubbs!
