Christmas 2006
This year is our third year to live in Houston over the holidays. The first year I was pregnant with Dubbs and was in complete denial that I no longer lived in Dallas. I think we spent plenty of 4 day weekends there between Halloween and Christmas so I could at least pretend that we still lived there...pitiful I know! Even so, I had to put up a tree in our little apartment. Nick and I had decided we wouldn't decorate since we wouldn't be spending much time down here for Christmas. But one day, I was sitting on the couch watching Celebrity Poker Showdown, crying I think and just being pregnant. So I decided to end my pity party (if only temporarily) and go get a tree. So I went to Walmart and bought a 5 foot pre-lit tree, lights and ornaments, stockings, candles - everything! And I decorated my heart out! It was fun to see the surprised look on Nick's face when he came home. Then we spent New Years in a hospital in Childress, TX where Nick's sweet Momma was having surgery. It was a lot of time in the car and on the road...especially for a pregnant lady, but there was no where we would have rather been. Looking back, the holidays were pretty special that year.
The next year we had moved to our home in Spring. Dalton was almost 9 months old and such an adorable little butterball struggling to take his first steps. We took him to see Santa at the mall and he cried...it was sad but the pictures are priceless. Decorating was a given, but we still spent Nick's entire time off in Dallas with family: First with the Palmers and Shoffners, then to Greenville for Christmas with the Ruths, then to Garland for Christmas with the Ackleys. We almost had to rent a Uhaul to get everything back with us. The Jeepster was loaded down! We made it back only to turn back around so we could spend New Years in Aledo with my brother and his family. The holidays were very busy that year...a little on the hectic side I would say. I think we were witnesses to more than one total emotional breakdown (not our own) so I guess we weren't the only ones who felt a little frazzled. But looking back on it, the memories are unique and special...and I cherish them.

More of Christmas 2006
This year we will be in the Dallas area for only two nights the weekend before Christmas and will be back here for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. My mom and sister will be coming to our house to celebrate and I am elated! Dalton is so much fun this year and I can't wait to see his face Christmas morning and cook my very first entire holiday meal at my own house. We will certainly miss those we will not see, but we're finally realizing how much we have done and how much effort we do make every year to be everywhere. So we're taking a little break this year from all the traveling and are looking forward to it! When I remember what we're celebrating, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, I am reminded of how only He can bring Peace on Earth...how love can only abound when He is present and how the nicest gifts and deeds are worth nothing if they are not given in a spirit of joy and gratitude. Maybe this year all the busy-ness won't cloud that, at least not for me and my family.
