Okay, so we are now in Mckinney at my sister-in-law's house. We stayed here Saturday night, then loaded up yesterday morning to go home. We needed to clean out the fridge/freezer and check on things at the house. We were happy to find that the only damage to our property was the mailbox. It was picked up and thrown in the ditch. We got very VERY lucky. I will post pictures of all the huge trees that were uprooted and the big mess that we found in our neighborhood when we drove in. It really is just devastating to see. Fortunately no one that we know was injured or had extensive damage to their homes. But EVERYONE is out of power and will be for 2-4 weeks. That will be the most challanging part of this whole ordeal.
We feel very blessed to have the family we do. All of our relatives in the DFW area have gone out of their way to accomodate us and welcome us into their homes. Thank you Dad & Deb for putting us up on Friday night while the storm was ravaging through Houston. Thank you Mom, Grandad, Aunt Karen and Traci for cooking for us, entertaining us and helping to take our mind off of things on Saturday. And a big thanks to The Palmers for being our "extended stay bed & breakfast"...you guys are such gracious hosts to us and make us feel like we are home away from home. Also to Uncle Dick and Aunt Meg for offering us a room in their home. We are overwhelmed with all the love you all have shown us. I cannot tell you how much it helps at such a time as this. Physically, we are worn out, but healthy...Praise God! Emotionally, it has been a tough few days. Having the love of family and friends is what gets you through. We have all three had our moments where we just feel completely overwhelmed.
We left home to head back to Mckinney last night. The heat and humidity was unbearable without AC, and the mosquitos were relentless! We all got eaten alive and were only outside for a few minutes. We got the Jeep completely loaded down with clothes for a week and two coolers full of food and drinks, the dog, the kid, laundry...went to start the car and the battery was dead! We jump started the battery and got on the road. Arrived safely back here around 10:30 last night. This morning the battery was dead again, so Nick took it up to NTB. It needs to be replaced, but can't take a regular battery...it has to be a special battery just for a Jeep that costs twice as much as other batteries. Of course it does! Why not?!? So now we're just camped out here until we get word that our power is back on. This will likely be my last post until we are back home to stay. We are able to get email and cell phone calls where we are now, so we'll be in touch that way. Love to all! Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers!
