It was back to the Cardiologist at Texas Children's Hospital yesterday and I'm happy to say it was probably the best appointment we've ever had there! Nick was able to take the afternoon off work and come with us, which really eased the stress of the usual experience. We found a parking space with no problem and didn't have to pay extra to valet...then we saw that they reduced their parking rates! Yea! We got up to the 20th floor with no problems, Dalton worked the waiting room, as usual, scouting for playmates, but ended up mostly playing with Anniston (who of course was with us too). She is so sweet to Dalton when he has to go to the doctor. She holds his little hand and is always so concerned about him...it is very sweet.
Anyway, the nurse we had was very good with Dalton. He didn't cry when they put him on the scale, or measured him. He squirmed a little for the blood pressure and EKG, but did exceptionally well compard to in the past. I was a very proud Mommy. Next the doctor came in and we were thrilled to see it was Dr. Shah, the doctor who attended to Dalton in the NICU when he was first born. Dr. Shah is very forthcoming, informative and comforting...we've missed him! Dr. Kertez came in to see Dalton and said everything looked great. He didn't have "break throughs" of SVT on his Holter monitor we did a couple of weeks ago (great news!!). BUT - of course because he is still growing, they did increase his medicine from 21 mls/day to 22.5mls/day. We did not have to do another Holter monitor, and we don't have to go back again until September!! So if he stays healthy and has no "episodes" of SVT, we will only need to be seen twice a year until he is old enough to have surgery to correct it.
All in all, it was a good visit. On another positive note, we have a new insurance company. And they are not only covering the cost of Dalton's medication, they are filling it at their own specialty pharmacy and overnighting it to us when we need it. No more hassles to get reimursed for the medication, no more driving 60 miles round trip to pick it up!!
