Dalton reading his Bible..such a good boy!
DISCLAIMER: Once again, I realize it's been a while since I've posted anything. It's a strange thing about the blog. There are some times when you have news to write about, but you just have a hard time putting things into words. What I mean is, that a blog is really supposed to be somewhat of a journal to document your feelings at a certain point in time and allow others to contribute insight and opinions. However, this blog has turned into more of an online bulletin board. There are some things that it's just not okay to "vent" about knowing that you never know who will be seeing it and might be offended or hurt by something that is written. There is a feeling of responsibility to censor ones self and there are times when it is difficult to post something without letting your true feelings come through. This may sound silly to many of you, but if you have your own "bulletin blog", you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. I have had a few recent instances that I have found very difficult to post about. But I think enough time has passed that I can just write an update without leaking anything too sensitive or personal.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way...
The issue of most importance and interest I believe is the fact that Nick and I have decided NOT to make the move back to Dallas at this time. There are many complicated reasons why. The bottom line is, we truly believe that staying here is the best decision when it boils down to our future. Once we stopped obsessing over moving back to Dallas and really began to speak openly about the consequences, the decision to stay came rather easily. I know some of you are thrilled about this, and many others are very saddened by it. We love all of you.
Labor Day weekend recently came and went. We spent the weekend in Childress where Nick grew up. His cousin Jeremy (who is really more like a brother to Nick) lives there along with most of Nick's family. Jeremy's little boy Kolten had a birthday party on Saturday and Dalton had a wonderful day in the park for the celebration. He wore himself out so much that he passed out in his cousin Korbin's plate of ice cream. I'm just sorry I didn't get a picture of it! Saturday night, after the kids went to bed we all hung out at Jeremy's house. Nick and I, his sister Jammi and KP, Jeremy and Heather, Jeff and Diana, and Thomas and Sara. It was a very fun evening of story telling, laughter, some knocking of heads...but it really wouldn't be a night with a bunch of Shoffners without some knocking of heads.
Kolten and Dalton
Proud Papas!
Lemme help you with that...
Sunday night we headed to McKinney for Korbin's first birthday party, which was Monday afternoon. Jammi did an awesome job and had an adorable theme: "It's all about Korbin". She even had t-shirts made for us to wear with Korb's picture on it...too cute! Nick and I spent Monday morning helping to set up and running some last minute errands. The party had a great turn-out and we all enjoyed watching Korbin celebrate his first birthday. The weekend was over so quickly and we were back in Houston Monday evening ready to start another week.
Korbin turns 1!!
This past weekend Nick and I had a few friends over for a cookout and poker. We had a great time, as usual and look forward to another get-together very soon. This coming weekend is my 10 year high school reunion. It is certain to inspire an interesting blog post! Stay tuned...
